WWE RAW Review, 02/21/2011:
Show started off with a countdown clock to hype up someone. I liked that.
John Cena Segment-
Normally I would rip into Cena but I can't do that today. Before I go into this the crowd was clearly anti-Cena, pro-Rock at the start of this. His promo started off like his normal annoying promos do complete with clearing his throat but instead of following that with his usual cutesy stuff he then went back to being the Doctor of Thuganomics after showing a replay of The Rock's trash talk from last week. He then ripped into The Rock with a verbal barrage that we haven't seen from him in ages. Honestly I liked it. And it went PG-13 too which made it even better. Best Cena promo in a LONG, LONG time. Hopefully they keep him like this because it's much better than the normal shit material they use with him.
CM Punk vs. John Morrison -
They showed a picture of Punk's cut up leg which looked pretty bad. Haven't seen that injury from a Chamber match before. Both wrestlers selling injuries. Punk went after Morrison's hurt knee and eventually it helped lead to him winning after a GTS.
Winner: CM Punk
CM Punk then proved why he is the current lord and master of the microphone by delivering an awesome promo directed at Randy Orton. He told Orton to let it go but Orton came in from the crowd and attacked him. Punk escaped from the RKO before being saved by his New Nexus minions.
Alberto Del Rio vs. Kofi Kingston -
Not really a match but a brawl. Del Rio comes out and Kofi ambushes him. Kofi wildly attacking him only to be stopped by a microphone to the head by Roberto Rodriguez. Del Rio then gets vicious and throws Kofi into the steps and barricade before putting the Code Red armbreaker finisher on him. Good segment, really vicious and brutal.
Miz Promo -
This probably is my favorite Miz promo. He ripped on both the fans as well as The Rock. Good stuff especially when he was making fun of the 30-year old fanboys who were cheering like kids for the Rock. He probably got the idea from my Twitter account last week, lol.
Bella Twins vs. Gail Kim and Eve Torres -
Short match but I liked the heel tactics of the Bellas. The switch at the end as well as the heel attack on the floor was pretty good. Liked this.
Winners: Bella Twins
Countdown...-
The countdown ends and Undertaker is shown. His music hits and the crowd goes wild. Taker comes out, does his thing, and is immediately interrupted by Triple-H who's also returning! Crowd goes even more wild. Taker glares at Trips as he goes from corner to corner posing. They have a staredown, look at the Mania sign, and Taker laughs before shaking his head. He puts his hat back on and goes to leave before doing an about-face before getting back in Trips' face. He does the throat slash motion and Trips counters with the DX crotch chop. They have another staredown which ultimately leads to a commercial break. Segment was good for what it was even with the muteness of both wrestlers.
Sheamus vs. Mark Henry -
Kind of a weird match. Sheamus dominates most of it and can't keep Henry's shoulders down. So instead of going for the Brogue Kick he pulls off the turnbuckle pad to reveal the metal underneath only to get caught in an Avalanche Splash and pinned by Henry. Like that they said he was weakened by the Chamber match which made sense but still took away Sheamus' momentum.
Winner: Mark Henry
"HACKSAW" JIM DUGGAN IN THE HALL OF FAME! I like it.
Michael Cole interviews Jerry Lawler -
I was laughing over Cole heeling out on the crowd before the interview. cole asking condescding questions while Lawler just glares at him. Good visual. This heel Cole interview making remarks about Lawler's dead mother makes me think of Bobby Heenan and the Big Bossman from 1991. Lawler finally gets pissed and gets on Cole before challenging him to a match at WrestleMania. Cole says it'll never happen and then goes back to the announce table but Lawler follows him out to the floor. YES! COLE THREW WATER IN LAWLER'S FACE AND RUNS OFF LIKE A COWARD! I like this feud already especially after Cole pulled a Heenan. I didn't like the idea of this when I heard about it but after seeing this I LOVE THIS FEUD! Awesome stuff here. This could be the sleeper feud going into Mania.
WWE Unified Tag Team Championship, champions Heath Slater/Justin Gabriel (c) vs. challengers The Miz/John Cena -
Miz starts and begins with the advantage. He starts badmouthing Cena throughout and they try to one-up each other. Miz hits the Skullcrushing Finale and Miz and Cena win the Tag Titles in a fairly quick match. Crowd was really cheering the new champs.
Winners: New Tag Team Champions John Cena and The Miz
Post-match had Wade Barrett get on the microphone and say that the Corre was inacting their rematch clause. The Anonymous GM agreed and said to ring the bell.
WWE Unified Tag Team Championship, champions The Miz/John Cena vs. challengers Heath Slater/Justin Gabriel (c) -
Slater and Gabriel get the advantage on The Miz and dominate him for most of the match. Crowd really cheering for The Miz. Like the Corre's cheating tactics. Distraction followed by an attack. That's skill wrestling right there. Miz repeatedly tries to tag out but comes up much short. He finally gets Gabriel down and tags Cena in and the crowd goes nuts. He gets the champs almost beat but Miz nails Cena from behind with the Skullcrushing Finale just as he's about to hit the FU. The Corre covers and regains the titles. Three tag title changes in 24 hours. I also think that Slater and Gabriel might be the quickest team to win three tag titles in WWE history.
Winners: New tag team champions Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel
Post-match had Miz laughing about what happened while Cena looked bewildered and pissed at the same time.
Overall I liked the show. The only thing I didn't like was the Sheamus/Henry segment but nothing else bothered me. Liked this show a lot especially the Cole/Lawler stuff, the Miz/Cena promos, the CM Punk promo, the Del Rio/Kofi brawl, and all of the matches were good except for the Sheamus/Henry match. Good show.
