The Fourth Kind Review

The Fourth Kind Review/Running Commentary:
The movie I have selected to do a Review and Running Commentary on tonight is the Fourth Kind. This is another movie that brings to mind one quote: "I want to believe." I wish this was a real story but it's not even though the promotions for it say it is. Anyway let the alientastic running commentary of doom commence. Considering I'm in a fairly foul mood due to dealing with System Tool Malware all afternoon long I'm going to probably rip into this more than usual.

Running Commentary -
Starts off with Milla Jovavich giving a backstory about the story and about the "archived footage" used in the movie. This is not really archived but I wish it was. I want to believe.
This is followed by "archived" interview footage with Dr. Abigail Tyler talking about what happened.
Abigail is then showed being given a psychological examination by her psychologist friend after her husband died. The whole backflash stuff is overly dramatic garbage.
Abigail goes back to Nome and interviews a man who has sleep issues and talks about seeing an owl outside of his window every night of the week.
Like the visuals of Nome in this movie. Good stuff.
So her daughter is blind all of a sudden after her husband dies? Not buying it. I smell a swerve like the Sandman in ECW back in 1994.
Her son is lashing out. He's probably just going through a Death Metal phase.
Oooo...the evil white owl. Maybe it's a Guardian of Ga'Hoole.
She's using hypnosis on a patient and he's telling her what happened the night before. Something entered his room and he freaks out during hypnosis. He breaks a lamp and is totally freaking out. This is getting good.
That night the man, named Tommy, grabs a gun and holds his family hostage while shooting wildly out the windows at the cops. He wants to talk to her and she goes down there to negotiate with him however he shoots his wife and kids before himself because of what he saw.
The police chief interrogates her about what happened and about what caused it. She gets into a heated argument with him. According to her there are more unsolved murders and missing people in Nome than anywhere else in Alaska. This is getting really good. I like this mystery element to it.
Despite all of this Abigail is more determined to find answers.
Her psychologist friend decides to help her out and to keep an eye on her since she's continuing what she's doing.
Her other patient asks her about what happened with Tommy and wants to be hypnotized. Oh boy. These people have no common sense. That makes this realistic since common sense has been gradually bred out of human over a period of fifty years.
The guy is hypnotized and telling her about the owl like Tommy did. He starts describing what's coming into his room. This is AWESOME. He starts going to into cardiac arrest and then quickly wakes up on Abigail's cue before throwing up.
His explaining about being abducted and what happens when they drag him away is the best scene so far. The guy looks legitimately freaked out. Great acting by him.
She tells her friend about her theory about aduction theories being involved in he insomnia epidemic in Nome. 11 million people know people who have seen or have been abducted by UFOs. I like this movie. Of course her buddy is the skeptic.
Her secretary freaks out over the tape she gave her to listen to. She's giving her dictation on it and then all of a sudden starts screaming at the top of her lungs as a strange language is spoken. AWESOME! I LOVE THAT SCENE!
This whole situation makes her more determined and after doing some research on the language heard in it, she finds that it's exactly what's she's looking for.
She then calls a number her husband called to talk to a linguistic he talked to and he figures out the voice is speaking in Sumerian. He arrives and translates the voice on the tape. He also thinks that the vocals dont sound human. The psychologist is still being a skeptic.
The psychologist buddy is Casey Jones from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie!
The Sumerian expert gives them a history lesson and tells them about pictures of rockets and space suits in Sumerian art. Sumerian history pre-dates the Bible by 6,000 years and the creation story was the basis for Genesis. This is SO COOL. Expect a blog about this stuff sometime next week.
They get a call from her other patient and he's freaking out because of a REALLY bad night. He has scars on his arms and everything.
They then put him under hypnosis and film it.
WHOA! HIS FACE EXPANDS AND HE LEVITATES OVER HIS BED WHILE SPEAKING SUMERIAN! HOLY CRAP THAT WAS AWESOME! That was one of the coolest things I've ever seen in a movie.
Abigail then tries to run away to North Carolina with her kids after what happened.
Police Chief August comes over and tries to arrest Abigail. Her psychologist friend, the skeptic, talks the Chief out of arresting her but she gets put under house arrest with 24 hour surveillance on her house.
She then explains the the different Kinds of UFO experiences that people have. Fourth Kind is when a person is abducted. Cool.
There's a light above her house and the cop car's camera is all staticy. AWESOME!
ABIGAIL'S DAUGHTER WAS ABDUCTED! WOW!
The Sheriff and Abigail again have another argument over Abigail's claims her daughter was abducted. He then removes her son from her custody.
Her plan now is to reach them by being hypnotized like the other man was in order to talk to the extraterrestrials.
She starts talking about the owl. What is it with this owl? I like the idea about it though.
HOLY SHIT! NOW SHE'S LEVITATING AND TALKING IN ALIEN WITH HER MOUTH WIDE OPEN WHILE TALKING TO THE ALIENS! THE DISTORTED CAMERA IS AWESOME! HER MOUTH OPEN LIKE THAT IS FREAKY AS HELL! THIS IS SO COOL!
Her mouth is still wide open after this.
THE ALIENS JUST ABDUCTED THEM ALL IN A SNEAK ATTACK! I LOVE THIS MOVIE!
Abigail then tells about what happened after the incident and about being in the hospital.
The sheriff shows her that her husband committed suicide and wasn't a murder but she's still in denial about it because she blames herself for not preventing it which is why she made up the murder story because of that reason.
The psychologist skeptic buddy and the sheriff dont believe the alien abduction stuff she says even though the skeptic experienced it first hand.
"It can be difficult to face the truth."
Whoa...Abigail is in a wheelchair. The actors then come on to talk about the movie.
"In the end, what you believe is yours to decide."
The end talks about the people involved and what happened to them after the movie.
Also I LOVE the fact that they use recordings of people talking about encounters with UFOs and extraterrestrials in the end credits instead of playing music. That was a good call by the filmmakers. Fascinating to listen to.

Review:
Overall 3 out of 5 stars. The stuff with the aliens was cool but the non-extraterrestrial life stuff sans Abigails arguments with the sheriff were pretty blah. However the scenes involving the alien voices and levitations were really awesome. Also the fact that none of this was real as advertised leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I want to believe but lying about it being real only makes it seem less believable. That end part with her being possessed was one the coolest things I've ever seen. I LOVED THAT. Overall I only recommend this to science fiction nerds and alien abduction/UFO fanatics like myself.
