Heel Profile: CM Punk:
This is the first Heel Wrestler profile in the Heel Heat blog and the reason I will only be profiling Heel Wrestlers is because heels are my favorite. The first heel I've chosen to do a profile on is my God and yours CM Punk. For those of you who don't follow wrestling anymore or don't know this guy I suggest looking up some of his stuff on Youtube. You wont be disappointed. Punk is on another planet compared to everyone else as far as combined mic skills and ring work is concerned. This guy is the complete package. Here's a little bit of a backstory on the guy. He started in a backyard wrestling federation with his friends in the mid-'90's. After being trained at the Steel Dominion wrestling school where he met close friend Colt Cabana he went on to work in independent wrestling mainly either teaming with or feuding with Cabana. His first indy fed work was in IWA: Mid-South. There he feuded mainly with Cabana, AJ Styles, and Chris Hero. After this he joined Ring Of Honor or ROH Wrestling. This is where he first became a villain. His promos were based on his straight edge lifestyle and he ran down Raven as an alcoholic much like his father was. There he also formed the Second City Saints tag team with Cabana. At this time he also teamed with Julio Dinero in TNA as The Gathering but soon left. Punk then feuded with Samoa Joe over the ROH World Championship and finally won it on June 18, 2005. After winning the belt he turned heel again and threatened to take the belt with him to the WWE (who had just recently signed him) before losing the belt on his second to last show with the company.
He started off his WWE career in OVW where in his first televised match he suffered a ruptured eardrum and a broken nose in his match against Danny Inferno. He won the OVW Television Championship from Ken Doane and mainly feuded with Brent Albright. Around this time Punk appeared as a gangster for John Cena's WrestleMania 22 entrance in Chicago, his hometown. Punk defeated nemesis Albright for the OVW Heavyweight Championship. He also won the OVW Southern Tag Team Championships with Seth Skyfire whom he feuded with after losing the tag titles and then Punk lost the OVW Heavyweight Title before being promoted to the WWE. He debuted in ECW as a face promoting his straight edge lifestyle. Punk feuded with Mike Knox after Knox's girlfriend Kelly Kelly became infatuated with Punk. Punk feuded with the New Breed faction before feuding with John Morrison over the ECW Championship. He won the title but lost it a few months later to Chavo Guerrero. Punk won the Money in the Bank Ladder Match at WrestleMania 23 and later in the year cashed it in to defeat Edge for the World Championship. After losing the title he won the WWE Tag Team Championship with Kofi Kingston and WWE Intercontinental Championship from William Regal. After losing both titles he won the Money in the Bank again and cashed it in at Extreme Rules to defeat Jeff Hardy for the World Heavyweight Championship. He then traded the belt with Hardy before ultimately eliminating Hardy from the WWE but lost the title to the Undertaker a few months later.
Then he turned really into a big time heel by forming the Straight Edge Society, a cult-like faction based upon his Straight Edge lifestyle. He started to look like Charles Manson and displayed messianic character traits as well as acting like a savior. His minions were Serena and Luke Gallows whom he "saved." He would give sermons at the shows which were genius. He then got in a feud with Rey Mysterio after interrupting his daughter's birthday celebration. Mysterio defeated Punk at WrestleMania XXVI. Eventually he lost a match to Mysterio where his head was shaved bald. His hair represented his "pureness" and this caused Punk to wrestle with a mask on to hide his baldness. He feuded with Big Show who unmasked him and walked out on his entire Straight Edge Society at SummerSlam after Show dominated them. He was traded to RAW but had to take time off because of a hip injury. This led to him being PURE GOLD on commentary. This guy is on another level compared to every commentator they've got. In late December he left the announce table to attack John Cena twice and soon revealed that he was a member of the Nexus before usurping power from Wade Barrett to form the New Nexus. He is currently feuding with Randy Orton whom he will face at WrestleMania XXVII.
