WWE WrestleMania XIX Review

WWE WrestleMania XIX Review:
This is my review of WrestleMania XIX that took place on March 30, 2003 in Seattle, Washington. Hopefully it's as good as the previous two Manias that I have watched.

Starts off with the intro video with the wrestlers talking about the show. As usual an excellent video to start off the show. Great job by them.

Fireworks display is awesome however the Limp Bizkit song playing in the background sucks balls.

WWE Cruiserweight Championship, Matt Hardy (c) (with Shannon Moore) vs. Rey Mysterio -
Mysterio is wearing a Daredevil inspired costume for this match. I like Matt Hardy's entrance. How did I forget that for best entrances? Wait...it involves Matt. That's why I forgot. Nevermind. Moore distracts Mysterio to start. Corkscrew Plancha by Mysterio to both Matt and Moore. Fast paced action by Mysterio at the beginning. Matt drops Mysterio onto the barricade after Moore kicks Rey in the gut. Twist of Fate countered into a pinning attempt by Rey. Side Effect by Matt only gets a two count. Matt accidentally rams his shoulder into the ringpost. Springboard attacks by Rey. Rey goes for the 619 but Moore trips him up and then Matt nails him with the Twist of Fate for a two count. Middle rope Razor's Edge countered into a Hurricanrana but only gets a two after Moore puts Matt's foot on the bottom rope. Rey hits the 619. Crowd really into Rey. Matt ducks the West Coast Pop. Hardy rolls him up and grabs the bottom rope to get the pin. Good fast paced opener. I liked it.
Winner: Matt Hardy

Limo arrives with the Miller Lite catfight girls. These are the type of women that I would never date. Annoying divas.

Handicap Match, The Undertaker vs. Big Show and A-Train -
Nathan Jones attacked backstage before the show. Limp Bizkit is WWE's favorite band in the whole world? I hate this match already just because of them being involved in it as well as the fact Jones was taken out of it. At least give the guy chance...or not. He probably sucks. They have dancers too...this has officially gone from crap to shit. Fred Durst is walking to ring with the female dancers. This is the worst Undertaker entrance EVER...EVEEEERRRRRR. A-Train spits on Taker's bike and Show's sneak attack fails. Taker chokeslams Train early but Show stops the pin. Taker dominating both Train and Show. Old School by Taker to Train. Derailer by Train to Taker. Show rams Taker's back into the ringpost on the floor. Show and Train now taking turns beating up on Taker. Taker counters Show's Chokeslam into a Armbar. Train breaks it up and he grabs him into the same hold until Show legdrops him. Show and Train put Taker in the abdominal stretch. Taker fights back and DDT's Train. Taker now fighting both men and winning with running corner clotheslines. Taker knocks down Show with a running clothesline. Bicycle Kick by Train. Chokeslam by Show to Taker. Jones shows up and does a martial arts kick on the floor to Show. Taker whips Train to Jones in the ring who kicks him in the head and then pins Train after the Tombstone. Wait...shouldn't that be a DQ? What the hell is this crap? Interference in a match that the referee CLEARLY sees and it's not a DQ? This match sucks balls.
Winner: Undertaker

The Miller Lite catfight girls meet up with Torrie Wilson and Stacy Keibler...this is going to be stupid. I can tell already.

Footage of the Dudleys costing RVD and Kane the World Tag Team Titles earlier in the show by helping William Regal and Lance Storm retain.

WWE Women's Championship Triple Threat Match, Victoria (c) (with Steven Richards) vs. Jazz vs. Trish Stratus -
Jazz attacks Trish at the start. Trish fights back with Lou Thesz Press and punches. Victoria pulls Trish off the apron and her head hits the apron. All three women fighting on the floor. Nice over the top rope flipping legdrop by Victoria to Trish. Jazz and Victoria teaming up against Trish with a double shoulderbreaker. Jazz and Victoria now fighting. Trish now back into it fighting both Victoria and Jazz. Jazz accidentally spin kicks Victoria down instead of Trish. Chick Kick by Trish only gets a two after Victoria makes the save. Top Rope Headscissors Takedown by Trish to Victoria. Jazz grabs Trish into an STF after Victoria is knocked out to the floor. Richards knocks Jazz out to the floor. Chickenwing Drop by Jazz to Trish. Victoria misses a Moonsault. Victoria knocks Jazz out to the floor. Richards comes in with a chair and misses, hitting himself in the face before Trish nails him with the Stratusfaction. Trish counters Victoria's Widow's Peak and then hits the Chick Kick for the win. Best women's match at a WrestleMania that I've seen thus far.
Winner: New Women's Champion Trish Stratus

Coach with the Rock backstage. Rock says the people that booed him numerous times in the past. Says he sold out every WrestleMania he's been in and could care less about the people. Says his destiny is to beat Steve Austin at WrestleMania. This is his holy grail and it's eating him alive that he hasn't done it. Says Act I and Act II don't matter but everyone remembers Act III. Says this is the last chapter of the greatest rivalry in wrestling history. Says he's going to beat Austin and then he would've done it all...FINALLY...finally. Great interview.

WWE World Tag Team Championship Triple Threat Match, Team Angle (c) (Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas) vs. Los Guerreros (Eddie and Chavo Guerrero) vs. Chris Benoit and Rhyno -
Starts off with all three teams fighting in the ring. Order restored and it's Charlie vs. Chavo. Nice dropkick counter by Chavo. Eddie vs. Benoit. This should be good. They knocked heads together and then Rhyno is tagged in. Lots of fast paced excellent wrestling at the start. Action slowing down now but still good wrestling. Lots of injury storylines in this match too. Superplex by Benoit to Eddie. Crossface by Benoit to Eddie. Brainbuster by Eddie to Benoit. Spinning Leg Scissors by Chavo to Benjamin. Rolling German Suplexes by Benoit to Chavo. Savate Kick by Benjamin to Benoit. Action picking up now. Eddie and Benoit bonk heads again. Everyone but Shelton down now. Frog Splash by Eddie to Shelton as he covers Benoit. Belly to Back Suplex by Haas to Chavo. Rhyno Gores Haas. Rhyno then Gores Chavo. Eddie and Rhyno fighting on the floor. Shelton crawls over and covers Chavo. The beginning 3 minutes and the ending 3 minutes were great but everything in between was boring to be honest. The action slowed down too much in the middle part after the hot opening.
Winners: Team Angle

Torrie, Stacy, and the Catfight girls again. Now Stacy and Torrie are doing the Catfight Girl pointless arguing now. What stupid garbage. Now the Catfight girls are arguing and now arguing over how to settle it - in the ring or in bed. This sucks ass.

Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho -
Great video showing the storyline that set up this match. This is good stuff. Jericho has on the best ring tights ever in this match. Michaels comes out and uses prop confetti shooters all the way down the rampway with some of them malfunctioning as Jericho looks on in jealousy. Great visual. Nice chain wrestling to start the match. HBK tosses Jericho outside and nails him with a Baseball Slide. Top rope crossbody by HBK is rolled through by Jericho for a two count. Nice spinning heel kick by Jericho. Jericho now in control. HBK with a Figure Four Leglock on Jericho but it's quickly reversed. HBK goes for it again but Jericho kicks him shoulder first into the ringpost. HBK skins the cat and pulls Jericho out with a headscissors before nailing him with a Plancha. Now they're fighting in the aisleway. HBK goes for a dropkick but Jericho catches him and grabs him into the Walls of Jericho on the floor. Jericho rams HBK's back into the ringpost. Jericho now in control again. DDT counter by HBK. Flying Forearm and Nip Up by Jericho followed by posing. HBK does the Original HBK version and takes control. Moonsault to standing Jericho by HBK nets a two count. Several pin attempt counters by both men. This is getting really good. Bulldog and Lionsault by Jericho only gets a two count. HBK goes for a Frankensteiner but gets caught in the Walls of Jericho. Top rope reverse elbow to standing HBK. Jericho mocks HBK by doing Sweet Chin Music for a two count. Crossbody followed by punches from HBK. HBK puts Jericho in the Walls of Jericho. Top rope belly to back suplex by Jericho countered into a crossbody by HBK. Top rope elbow by HBK. HBK misses Sweet Chin Music and gets put in the Walls of Jericho. HBK reaches the bottom rope and Jericho is pissed. Superkick by HBK. HBK grabs Jericho into a counter roll up for the win. Great match. After match they hug and THEN JERICHO KICKS HBK LOW! I LOVE THIS! THAT WAS ONE OF THE BEST MOMENTS EVER! JERICHO IS A MAN THAT KIDS CAN LOOK UP TO AND BE PROUD OF! That ruled all.
Winner: Shawn Michaels

Backstage referee Sylvan Grenier goes into Mr. McMahon's locker room.

Goldberg hype video. Pretty good stuff there.

Tony Chimel announces they set a Safeco Field attendance record of 54,097.

Limp Bizkit out to perform another horrible "song" that sounds like shit.

Coach brings out the Miller Lite catfight girls to the crowd. They get on a bed to fight and then Stacy shows up followed soon by Torrie. They depants Coach and pinned him. This sucks ass.

World Heavyweight Championship, Triple-H (c) (with Ric Flair) vs. Booker T -
Good pre-match video. JR just said WCW was a joke, lol. Like the realism of the ref telling them the rules. Both men trading blows at the start. Top rope armdrag by Booker. Booker rams Trips' head into the ringpost. Trips takes over and rams Booker's head into the ringpost. Trips then rams him into the ringsteps. Trips now in total control. DDT by Booker T. Both men trading blows. Spinning heel kick by Booker. Trips now back in control after a High Knee and a Sleeper Hold. Spinebuster by Booker. Kick by Booker only gets a two count. Booker misses a Scissors Kick and straddles the top rope and falls to the floor. Flair rams Booker's knee into the ringsteps. Indian Deathlock by Trips. Roll Up by Booker gets a two count. Trips kicks Booker into the referee. Scissors Kick by Booker only gets a two count. Harlem Hangover to Trips gets a two count. Pedigree by Trips leads to a pin about thirty seconds later. Horrible match. This was boring garbage to watch.
Winner: Triple-H

Street Fight, Hulk Hogan vs. Vince Mcmahon -
Great pre-match hype video. Made this match seem really important. Slap by Vince leads to Hogan going on the warpath. Vince now in control. Vince ramming Hulk's arm into the ringpost. Greco Roman knuckle challenge ala Warrior and Hogan. Vince tosses Hulk to the floor. Vince rams Hulk into the barricade. He then rams his shoulder into the ringpost. Vince misses a steel chair shot and Hulk punches him down before ramming his head into the ringpost. Hulk has the chair. Hulk smashes Vince in the head with the chair. Vince bleeding now. Hulk has another chair and smashes Vince in the back with it twice. Hulk misses Vince and hits Hugo in the head with the chair! Low blow by Vince and he hits Hulk in the face with the chair. Vince has a ladder out now. Hulk bleeding now. Vince pulls apart the Spanish announce table. He then rams Hulk in the face with a monitor and chokes him. VINCE CLIMBS THE LADDER AND LEG DROPS HOGAN THROUGH THE TABLE! Vince covers him but only gets a two count in the ring. Vince gets a lead pipe. AWESOME visual of Vince looking at Hulk. Low blow by Hulk. RODDY PIPER SHOWS UP! Piper has the lead pipe. Piper hits Hulk instead of Vince with the pipe. Two count by Vince after a cover. Vince beats up the ref and tosses him out to the floor. Sylvan comes out and Vince gets a two count after hitting the Atomic Leg Drop. Hogan Hulks Up. Hulk beats up Sylvan and Vince. Double Atomic Leg Drop by Hulk for the win. Excellent ending with Hogan posing, Shane coming out, and then Vince flipping off Hogan.
Winner: Hulk Hogan

Steve Austin vs. The Rock -
This should be good. Excellent pre-match hype promo. Rock's Hollywood heel entrance is the best. Starts off with brawling. Rock tries to run away but Austin knocks him down. Austin now beating up him around ringside. Austin in total control. Rock gains control after two chop blocks to Austin's knees. Fight back around ringside. Rock ramming Austin's knee into the ringpost. Austin tries to fight back but Rock knocks him down. Sharpshooter by Rock. Rock now ramming Austin's knee into the ringpost again. Rock puts on Austin's ring vest, lol. Both men clothesline each other down. Lou Thesz Press and Fists of Fire by Austin. Elbow by Austin. Rock comesback and poses only to get Rock Bottomed. Austin covers for a two count. Stunner by the Rock only gets a two count. Stunner by Austin. Low blow by Rock. Spinebuster by Rock. He finally takes off the vest and hits the People's Elbow. Rock Bottom to Austin only gets a two count. Rock can't believe it. Rock Bottom by the Rock and Austin kicks out. Rock is in total shock. This is AWESOME! Rock pins Austin after a third Rock Bottom. Rock talking to Austin on the mat after the match. After that Rock left and then Austin got a standing ovation. I really liked everything about this match. This was Austin's last match and it was one of the Rock's last big matches. Really good overall. This and the Jericho/Michaels match have been the best so far.
Winner: The Rock

WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Kurt Angle (c) vs. Brock Lesnar -
Another good pre-match promo video. Staredown pre-match. Chain wrestling to start off with. Both men taking turns in control. Armbar by Brock. Powerslam by Angle. German Suplex by Angle has no effect. Angle going after Brock's injured ribs. Gorilla Press Slam by Brock to Angle. Angle ramming Brock's ribs into the barricade. Angle in control. Rear Naked Choke by Angle to wear down Brock's ribs. Now he's got it pulling up on the neck and it looks really painful. Brock picks him up and rams him back first into two turnbuckles to release the hold. Belly to Belly Throw by Angle. Angle back to working on the ribs. Brock knocked out to the floor. Spinebuster by Brock. Brock now corner barraging Angle. Two Belly to Belly Suplexes in a row by Lesnar. Rolling German Suplexes by Angle. Angle gets out of the F-5 and counters with an Ankle Lock. Now switches it to a Half Crab. Angle dumped out to the floor. VICIOUS GERMAN SUPLEX BY KURT ANGLE THAT MAKES LESNAR GO INSIDE OUT! Angle surprises Lesnar with a small package for a two count. F-5 by Lesnar. Ankle grabs Brock into the Ankle Lock again. Small Package by Angle gets a two count. F-5 by Lesnar to Angle. Lesnar doesn't cover but instead climbs to the top rope. BROCK GOES FOR A SHOOTING STAR PRESS AND MISSES! HE LANDS ON HIS HEAD NEXT TO ANGLE! HOLY SHIT! Angle covers for a two count. F-5 by Lesnar and he pins Angle for the win. I didn't like this match to be honest. The middle and the rib attack parts were pretty boring. Good near the end but could've been a lot better. Show ends with Angle hugging Lesnar as fireworks go off.
Winner: Brock Lesnar

Overall:
7 out of 10 stars. Too many matches with boring middle sections really hurt this show as well as the Miller Lite Catfight girl garbage. However Jericho/Michaels, Austin/Rock, Hardy/Mysterio, and the Women's Match were all good. Everything else either was just okay or had a few good spots but boring middle parts.
