This is the Heel Heat review of Breaking the Code: Behind the Walls of Chris Jericho.
-Jericho grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Like the early footage of Chris from when he was a kid. His dad was an NHL player.
-Says he wanted to be a wrestler and a rock star. He watched AWA wrestling and loved The Beatles.
-Jericho was a metalhead...yeah, that makes him even more awesome.
-Stampede Wrestling had an ad about wanting to wrestle but was only 17 so he got into a communications class at a community college until he was 18. He met Jesse Ventura and had a great conversation. Jesse talked him into getting his degree and then wrestle which he did.
-The first guy he met was Lance Storm. They hit it off well good. Jericho says the bad thing about the camp was there were no Hart brothers but what was good was it was based on a book Stu Hart wrote.
-Like the footage of Jericho early in his career.
-Bret Hart talking about seeing him on TV was nice.
-Jericho going to Mexico was cool. His comments about when he was there was good. That was where he became Lionheart.
-He was really popular in Mexico at the time. Him talking about there being 30 shows on a Sunday is really interesting to hear.
-His six week tour of Germany was interesting.
-Smoky Mountain Wrestling...THRILLSEEKERS! That team was really good. This is where doing promos was what he learned the most about.
-Ultimo Dragon got Jericho to Japan for WAR.
-Jericho in ECW. I remember that. The ECW fans loved him since they were mostly tape traders.
-Cactus Jack was the one who got him there. I really home his match with Jack is on this DVD.
-World Wrestling Peace Festival is where Eric Bischoff saw Jericho. Bischoff hired him on the spot at the show.
-Jericho says his first WCW matches were horrible and was a good guy babyface that people weren't interested in.
-Jericho puts over the WCW Cruiserweight Division. Awesome footage from that era on here.
-Jericho talking about his heel turn and the footage about it is really good. His over the top character got him over.
-Jericho's conspiracy victim storyline was awesome. Hilarious video from this.
-The 1,004 Holds thing with Dean Malenko was really good. ARMBAR! The video of him reading the list was great.
-The Jericho Goldberg entrance was hilarious as well as the midget Goldberg match was amusing. Jericho's Goldberg feud was really good too. Goldberg talking about why he didn't want the match and Bischoff's position about it led to Jericho wanting to get out of WCW. Goldberg seems to be getting the blame for it.
-Jericho came up with the countdown clock idea.
-Jericho's WWE debut was really good.
-Forgot about his feud with Chyna over the Intercontinental Championship. This got him the Intercontinental Title he wanted.
-Jericho's first really good stuff was with Stephanie McMahon. This angle put him over the top.
-His work with Triple-H got him onto the next level.
-Jericho winning the Undisputed Championship was one of the biggest moments ever. He paved the road for cruiserweights being world champions.
-Jericho main eventing a WrestleMania in his home country of Canada was a huge deal. He thinks Hogan/Rock was the real main event and should've gone on last.
-Wrestlers talking about working with Jericho and their favorite matches of his was really good to watch.
-Chris Jericho's Highlight Reel might've been called Jericho's Junction.
-The HBK/Jericho feud and match was one of the best ever.
-Jericho and Christian's tag team was one of my all time favorite teams ever in wrestling. I was a big fan of them. Their break-up and the love triangle feud over Trish Stratus was classic.
-Jericho was the one who really gave Cena his first really good matches in WWE.
-Big Show lives down the street from Jericho. That's interesting.
-Jericho has a lot of things going on. Fozzy wanted to just do two shows for fun but got such a good reaction they got signed by a label. Fozzy can rock it.
-There's a lot more about Fozzy on this DVD than I expected to see.
-Jericho's mom died around the same time he took his break.
-Watching Cena/HBK brought him back to WWE.
-The return of Jericho was good. However the sparkly vest didn't make me a fan of him as a face.
-Jericho's heel turn against HBK was BRILLIANT. That was one of my all time favorite feuds ever in wrestling. That led to his awesome heel character that is one of the best ever.
-His character was based on Anton from No Country for Old Men. He also based it on Nick Bockwinkle which was great. His promos in this time period were some of the best ever.
-The HBK/Jericho feud was excellent.
-Jericho/Rey's deud was excellent too. The feud was based on Jericho wanting Rey's mask.
-Jericho/Show's tag team was great. That was another team I really liked.
-Jericho/Edge has a great Mania match.
-I liked the Jericho/Barrett team up was good too. That was a perfect fit.
-The wrestlers putting over Jericho at the end of the DVD's biography section was a nice touch.
Special Features:
-Jericho talking about being a wrestling fanatic was great especially the story about the pictures.
-His first match was against Lance Storm. Jack Action was the name he came up with. He then remembered that he had a Helloween album called "Walls of Jericho" and that's how he got his name. "Cowboy" Chris Jericho was his first gimmick.
-Leon de Oro was the name he came up with and the promoter wanted him to be He-Man. He-Man and Chris Power were the final two names where the fans voted his name in Mexico. Leon de Oro was the name and only 112 voted for the name, lol.
-Thrill Seekers vignette with them at the gym. This was like a rock video.
-Thrill Seekers in the Smoky Mountains. Cool vignette with bumper cars! AWESOME! Amusing vignette.
-Christian talking about meeting Jericho for the first time and asking everyone if they knew who Chris Jericho. Everyone said yes.
-Jericho talking about talking to all of these people who he knew was Heyman, lol.
-Joey Styles didn't know a Jericho hold and called it a "Mr. Salty" so it's a running gag with them.
-Jericho reads his list of 1,004 Holds segment. ARMBAR! Prince Ieukea came out and chased him out but Jericho only cared about his list.
-The Conspiracy Victim segment. This was very amusing.
-Dillon makes Jericho face Malenko. Jericho whining in this was great. His dad shows up and gets on his case about not being a true professional. His dad tells him to face Malenko like a man.
-Jericho spoofing Goldberg's entrance and getting locked out of the building is one of the most hilarious things ever. Wrath, his opponent, goes outside from the ring and chases him.
-Interview with Chris Jericho and The Rock. They keep interrupting each other and mock each other's catchphrases. This was good.
-Jericho and Austin after a show in 2003. Really good interactions here. Ends with them sharing a beer and Austin stuns Jericho.
-Jericho challenges an old man to a fight. Jericho then ejects the crowd. This was really good.
-Jericho's Junction video. Great video of highlights from his career promo and segment wise.
-Fozzy "Let the Madness Begin" music video.
